Jennifer the Individual

Jennifer Barreto-Leyva is a proud Hispanic woman born in Caracas, Venezuela. To say that she is passionate about changing the world’s perception of plus women would be an understatement! As an advocate for the plus sized woman, Jennifer is constantly striving to prove the essence of a woman is lies in her character, not her dress size. She is constantly speaking out in the media about the beauty and strength of the plus size woman and welcomes the opportunity to speak on any panel (hint, hint media people).

The beauty of each woman goes far beyond having a little curve or very sharp ones. Rather, it is knowing how to respond to what life throws at you, however delicate, and knowing how strong a mark to leave each time you go after your dreams.” – Jennifer Barreto-Leyva

Jennifer the Professional

Ms. Barreto-Leyva is a licensed attorney specializing in appearance-based discrimination cases. She dedicates her time providing pro bono consultations to individuals who have experienced prejudice because they are overweight. She visits schools and women’s organizations as a motivational speaker to encourage and inspire women to follow their dreams regardless of what size they are. As a model, Jennifer’s goal is to shake things up in the fashion world and convince designers and the media that the plus sized woman is just as alluring, confident and sought after as their thinner counterparts!

Jennifer in the Community

Aside from counseling and speaking engagements Jennifer is also an avid writer and uses the written word as another means of spreading her vision of a world released of size limitations and unjust practices against people of size. In addition to her blog Jennifer can be found composing messages of acceptance and self-worth for www.dcglamourplus.com, www.justasbeautiful.com, www.latinalista.com, www.hechayderecha.com.ve.

  1. I have the pleasure of working with Jennifer and the one adjective omitted from this wonderful write-up is that Jennifer is also courageous. In a part of the world where there is much discrimination against women overall, Jennifer’s courage to speak out is what is bringing change, however slowly, in how plus-size women are finally being viewed by a part of the world resistant to change. Also, it goes without saying that Jennifer is smart and while advocating for women, also has the courage to speak out against injustices she sees happening in her country.

Without trying to sound too much like a fan, Jennifer really is a modern-day woman.
