Phatshionista Update

Wow! The response to the Phatshionista Contest has been amazing! Ten of the most beautiful voluptuous ladies are competing for a $100 shopping spree at curvy clothier B & Lu. Over 3,400 votes have been placed and so far, the race has been confined to two entrants: Jennifer B. with 1,747 votes and Jill W. with 1,315 votes. Tally H. is in 3rd place with 230 votes. There is still plenty of time to vote before we crown our first Phatshionista of the Month so ladies keep rallying your networks to your cause!

A New Look for TVP

No, your eyes have not been playing tricks on you. Over the past several days I’ve been playing around with different themes for the blog. I’ve finally settled on one that allows the customization I need so what you see now will stay in effect for the next several months or until I finally get around to doing a custom theme. I would appreciate any feedback regarding the new theme from the TVP Fam. You know I value your opinions. 😉

Side Note

If you haven’t done so already please subscribe to our mailing list. In the very near future we will use this list to inform you of upcoming events and other contests and the only way to find this stuff out will be through the email list. To subscribe simply enter your email address at the top right of our blog screen under “Subscribe to The Voluptua Project™”. As always, thank for the continued support!

This week, TVP is proud to present Sarah Wilder!

Sarah the Individual

As an actress, scribe and vocalist Sarah “Karma” Wilder is no stranger to being looked down upon as a plus sized woman. She was all too aware of prejudice in the local acting community as she was passed up for roles for which she was suited or cast in limited parts that showed little character growth. Sarah didn’t allow their negative attitudes to hinder her. She has since gone on to receive a Master of Arts degree in Theatre and Bachelor of Arts in English from Wayne State University.

Sarah the Professional

A Detroit, MI resident, Sarah Wilder has performed in local works such as Affairs: One Night Can Change Your Life, Decide Tonight, A Woman Like Ruth and many other works in the city’s theatre and film circuit. Presently, she can be found in the stage play entitled It’s Not Worth Being a Playa, No More by Message of Hope Entertainment, which will run from May 28-30, 2010 at the Paul Robson Theater (inside the Northwest Community Center of Detroit). You can find ticket information by visiting Message of Hope Online.

Sarah in the Community

Ensuring that women of size are portrayed in a more positive light Sarah has gone to great lengths to develop meaning projects that showcase empowered and inspired plus sized women. One such project came into being during her Masters of Arts project in 2009. Entitled The Curve Project (TCP) Sarah set out to prove that women of size could take on serious roles that are motivational and thought provoking. Additionally, it was a chance for audience members to experience a performance where real sized women were represented in a positive way. Sarah is currently working on a final script with extra material not touched up in the original 35 minute piece. She hopes to launch the project sometime near winter 2011. She is also working on several other promising TV and film projects.

Positively Plus Profile: Tracy Smith of Confident Allure

This week, TVP is proud to present Tracy Smith of Confident Allure!

Tracy the Individual

Formerly a Scottsdale, Arizona native, Tracy is now a resident of Kettering Ohio. She began her career as a makeup artist working for M.A.C. Cosmetics, initially as a part time artist but eventually working her way up to a management position. She has two wonderful children: an 18 year old son and a 13 year old daughter. When asked what being a makeup designer means to her she says, “Makeup artistry is a life sentence for me that I am willing to serve”. Her motto is to keep God first, stay positive and to laugh as much as she can daily.

Tracy the Professional

For 14 years Tracy has been a makeup designer and she considers it a blessing to be able to love what she does and do what she loves. She is the proud owner of Confident Allure, a full service makeup artistry business specializing in Bridal, Film, Commercial, Theatrical, Professional Ballroom Dancers, Teen Dance Team and Pageants. My freelance work has appeared in ads for Proctor and Gamble, Cincinnati Wedding, Arizona Wedding Magazine, Today’s Arizona Women, Tony and Guy, A Diamond is Forever Campaigns, Hugo Boss, Macy’s, Dillard’s and Dayton Daily News. She’s just completed an assignment as lead makeup artist for an independent film, entitled Grandma’s Hands.

Before becoming a makeup designer, Tracy was a hairstylist for twelve years before becoming a licensed cosmetologist; she is currently a licensed Esthetician and offers instructional makeup seminars and workshops. “I’m often asked, what’s the difference between a makeup artist and a makeup designer?” She explains: “Makeup designing involves blueprinting makeup specifically to an individual’s features and personality, makeup artistry focuses instead of trends”.

Complimenting her artistic flair as a makeup designer, Tracy is also a voluptuous model and voice over talent. “I prefer the term voluptuous because it represents the essence of my full figure. In my opinion, the word “plus” doesn’t represent the chic, elegance and sophistication that full figure women all over the word deserve.”, says Tracy

Tracy the Philanthropist

Working with teens is a big part of how Tracy encourages and inspires others. She volunteers her energy and time to both the award winning Chenaulte Dance Team and Studio and to Stivers School for the Arts.
